The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has called for collaboration between the EFCC and Student Union leaders of institutions of higher learning across the country in the fight against economic and financial crimes, as a potent means of driving public awareness and commitment to anti-corruption cause.
He made this call in Benin City, Edo State Friday, on Friday, January 31, 2025 in an interactive session with Student Union Executives of the University of Benin who paid a courtesy visit to the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Commission.
Olukoyede, who spoke through the Acting Zonal Director, Benin Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Effa Imoh Okim noted that collaboration with students’ unions were pivotal in combating the menace of internet fraud in Nigeria. "Let's work together in tackling the menace of economic and financial crimes especially internet fraud that is giving our country a bad name. As student leaders, you are the future leaders of our country. We want to harness your energy and your strength to build a better Nigeria. What we are doing at the EFCC is to safeguard your future from criminals who want to destroy it." He admonished them to shun internet fraud and other forms of criminality. "Your future is very bright as long as you engage in legitimate activities. I urge you to take this message to your university that there is no shortcut to wealth."
Earlier in his remark, Agboola Israel Temilehin, President of the Student Union Government, SUG, assured Okim of the Union’s willingness to support the Commission in the attainment of its mandate. "As student leaders we are ready to work with you to enlighten our students on the dos and don’ts and other areas where we need to collaborate."
