The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kano Zonal Directorate, has sought the operational collaboration of the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) in its ongoing fight against illegal mining and associated economic crimes in Kano State and its environs.
This alliance was sought in Kano on Friday, October 10, 2025 by the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, DCE Sa'ad Hanafi Sa'ad while on a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of KAROTA, Engineer Faisal Mahmoud at the Agency's headquarters.
Sa'ad highlighted the critical role KAROTA could play in disrupting the activities of illegal miners. He specifically pointed to the Agency's extensive manpower and pervasive presence across major and inner-city routes as a strategic asset.
The EFCC Director requested KAROTA’s support in monitoring and tracking the routes used by illegal miners to transport minerals illegally sourced from various locations within the state. This intelligence, he noted, is vital for the EFCC to effectively intercept and prosecute those involved in the criminal enterprise, which deprives the government of crucial revenue and damages the environment.
In his response, Mahmoud gave an immediate and firm assurance of KAROTA’s readiness to collaborate with the EFCC. According to him, KAROTA is always open and willing to support the Commission in carrying out its mandate. To ensure effective and coordinated action, he urged the EFCC to formally detail its specific intelligence needs , pledging that upon receipt, he would personally see to it that the Commission receives the necessary support and intelligence required to succeed in its mission.
