Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ola Olukoyede has called on youths and students across to brace and be at the fore-front of the anti-corruption campaign as they are the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and role models.
He made the call in Abuja on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 during a sensitization visit of EFCC officers to Model Secondary School, Maitama
The EFCC boss, who was represented by the Head, Public Interface Unit of the Public Affairs Department, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE 1 Tony Orilade, emphasized that the future of Nigeria was dependent on the future of the youths, hence the need for them to constantly equip themselves with knowledge in order to remain focused, determined and responsible citizens.
He encouraged Nigerian youths to champion the anti-corruption crusade, adding that as youths, they have vital roles to play in preventing corruption and promoting transparency and accountability both in private and public lives
He observed that, often, youths are overlooked in the fight against corruption with their unique perspectives and energies left untapped.
According to him, the youths are better equipped to successfully propagate the anti-corruption message.
“If the youths, who are the future of Nigeria are misled, Nigeria, as a nation has nowhere to go,” he said.
Olukoyede therefore implored the students not to disappoint the hope the country has in them.
Also speaking, Head, Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, ACE II Aisha Muhammed, encouraged the students to always exhibit good moral standards and try to embrace good qualities expected of responsible citizens of the country.
Muhammed urged the students to put in their best and take good advantage of the Club to contribute their quota to the economic development and for the good image of the country.
Inspector of the EFCC, and Cybercrime expert, IE Eniola Kayode, speaking on “How to Stay Safe Online” with a focus on sextortion, urged the students to be mindful of how they use internet stressing that the rate of sextortion is increasingly becoming alarming in Nigeria and the world at large.
She pointed out that there was a need to re-engage children and youths in the fight against corruption, describing it as not only essential for their own development as responsible and ethical citizens, but also crucial for creating a sustainable and corruption-free future.
