The Independent National Electoral Commission,   INEC, has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,   EFCC on  its efforts geared towards curbing electoral fraud in Nigeria.

 This commendation was given  in  Gombe, Gombe State by the   Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, Gombe,   Dr Sa'ad U. Idris when he paid a  courtesy visit to the  Gombe Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC,  ACE1 Austine Adache at the EFCC 's office in Gombe.

  Idris disclosed that,  "The EFCC has brought sanity into the electoral processes in the country.  It gladdens my heart to say that vote buying and selling are almost impossible as security agencies,  including the EFCC,  are now present at polling booths to monitor elections and this has created  some orderliness in the country" .

The Commissioner added that " We are  here to strengthen the relationship  with our critical stakeholder to ensure peace and security in our electoral processes." 

He specifically sought  partnership regarding capacity building of its staff to boost efficiency and assured the EFCC of  his unrelenting support.  " We wish to be part of your capacity building programmes to brainstorm  on electoral processes and increase productivity.  We also assure you of our unrelenting support in the fight against corruption”, he said.

Responding ,  Adache  reiterated  that “the EFCC  is established  to curb corruption, economic and financial crimes in the country.  Our efforts are yielding results.  At the Gombe Zonal level, we have secured some convictions on  electoral  issues,   however,  all hands must be on deck if we must win the  war against corruption". 

He expressed optimism that the collaboration between the two agencies would be taken a notch higher.   "We value the partnership between your agency and the EFCC.  Our focus is to sanitize the society  and with this new synergy , we hope to do more”, he said.
