The Commandant of the EFCC Academy, Ayo Olowonihi has charged Nigerian youth to shun corruption and buy into the fight against economic and financial crimes. Olowonihi made this call on July 4, 2013 while receiving students of Hayatul Islam Nursery and Primary School, who paid him a courtesy visit at the EFCC Academy, Karu, Abuja.

Olowonihi who was represented by Abiodun Adebanjo, Staff Officer to the Commandant, educated the pupils on how and why the EFCC was established by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003. Adebanjo went further to say the EFCC is mandated to investigate, prosecute and prevent all crimes relating to economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.

He also lectured the pupils on the various units in EFCC which helps it in actualizing its mandate. He warned the students of the danger of getting involved in economic and financial crimes to include loss of confidence from both family members and the society, and possible conviction and imprisonment.

He told the pupils to be better citizens of the country by contributing their quota to the development of the country. He charged then to spread the anti-corruption news to their families and friends.

He concluded by advising the pupils of the school to be law abiding citizens as most criminals started as defaulters of rules and regulations of the country.

Abdulsalam Haruna, one of the teachers who accompanied the students on the visit thanked the Commission for the warm welcome. "We now know we have a great duty to do more in educating the pupils", he declared.
