The Maiduguri Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, April 3, 2023, arraigned the duo of Alhaji Kolo Ngwari and Mele Isma’il before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri, on four-counts of cheating and criminal breach of trust to the tune of N1, 650,000.00 (One Million Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira).

Count two of the charge reads: “That you, Mele Ismail and Alhaji Kolo Ngwari on or about August, 2018 at Pompomari bye-pass Layout, Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud obtained the aggregate sum of N1, 650,000.00 (One Million Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) from one Alfred Buba Mbaya as purchase price for a plot of land at Pompamari Bye-pass Layout, Maiduguri, Borno State with grant No. BO/707 purportedly owned by Alhaji Kolo Ngwari which both knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 8(a) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 respectively.”

The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the counts preferred against them by the EFCC.

Counsel for the prosecution, S.O Saka asked for a tor trial date and the remand of the defendants.

Justice Kumaliya adjourned till May 30, 2023 for trial and remanded the defendants in prison custody.
